Unhinged
Unhinged does justice to its name by showing the disconnect from reality through a lack of understanding why the other party won’t react with the same level of enthusiasm to proudly showing the bodies you’ve gathered.
In its essence, it’s about letting go of every expectation of you and just embracing the negativity within you. No more trying to be the best version of yourself for others.
“I like the fact that, within the realm of music, I can be whoever I want to be, or whoever I don’t want to be. I can be a serial killer for 3 minutes straight. I used to be a huge people pleaser, so for me it helped to go to the other extreme end of the spectrum to then return to a more balanced version of myself.”
Origin Story
“Just like New Order, Unhinged was written for a challenge for the YouTube channel “RoomieOfficial”. The assignment was to take Giorno’s theme from Jojo’s bizarre adventures and do something creative with it. I slowed it down and put it in a 6/8 time signature.”
The Sound of Unhinged
Unhinged was created right after Josephine’s initial cover of Dance Monkey. It already showed large steps in terms of production. We hear similar slow and sensual vocals, only this time cleaner. There’s harmonies in the lead vocal, more of a melodic rap later in the song, followed by a vocal soar, a much higher vocal melody. Something that becomes prominent in Josephine’s discography.
Lyrics
The mistakes that I made, oh I'm over it
Got me running in circles and wondering
If I make the pieces, or crumble it
I am sorry, forgiveness is not my strenght
Bitter side unleash her
Unravel volition
Hear the warning signs
Say “you better get paranoia”
I’m on your mind, try to get out, mixed up my wires
Got strangled by the stories I twist, hit but I missed
Bet I will get it right the next time
I don’t need your empathy, I know I’m no good for me
Suck you dry cause I’m a leech
Sometimes it’s better to keep things a secret
Somethings are better to leave unsaid
If I show my bodies with pride you will lose it (again)
I start to lose count using only one hand
