New Order

New Order is just a really playful, sexy song to announce your presence or return to the public. It’s a song that makes you feel in control, which is very empowering.

It’s a very vocal-heavy dark pop song, the mood is calm, ethereal, chill.

I like to describe New Order as a warm blanket of vocal harmonies, the song is really interesting with a lot of different sectrions, it’s chill but far from boring! There’s no song structure, it’s a one way ride”

What started out as a simple cover, grew into a whole new song.

“I mark my Dance Monkey cover as the start of my creative growth, people kept asking me to make a full version so I did. I didn’t just want to cover the song, cause that’s kind of boring. I was adding my own seasoning and the cap fell of the bottle.”

The Sound of New Order

New Order is truly an experience to listen to. It’s a one way trip through vocal heaven consisting of 4 parts, distancing itself from traditional song structure. The song starts out with a pulsing synth and vocal harmonies, continues in another part by explaining the thought process behind making a whole new song out of Dance Monkey instead of just making a longer cover, after which, the listener gets catapulted into a higher vocal flex and coming down into lyrical sultriness, and very sensual, sexy, inviting vocals. The song ends in a more melodic part as it gets ready for the listener to soar one more time in the higher areas of the singer’s vocal range. The harmonies are very warm, thick and stacked as if announcing the return of a vocal godess.

New Order Original Version

New Order - Jose Schmitt Remix

“Though New Order has grown to be one of my best songs to date, I wanted the artwork to remind me of the start: a simple RoomieOfficial Cover challenge, helped me find my voice, my sound, and has changed my musical path forever.”

Origin Story

New Order started out as a submission for a Dance Monkey cover challenge for a creator on youtube called RoomieOfficial aka Joel Berghult.

Because of these challenges taking place during finals period, Josephine had only 5 hours to make the song and video before submitting it.

“Usually it takes at least a couple of days to make a song, let alone a video to go along with it, it was the perfect opportunity to make something great in a small timespan and it was the first step towards finding my sound and taking my music more seriously”

When I read the comments on that video, I realised I was onto something, after seeing Joel’s reaction and reading the comments under his video as well as mine, I decided to start working on “New Order” This took me over a year. The song had so many tracks and Garageband kept giving “system overload” errors so I had to export each part individually and work on it that way. My friend and I built my current PC and I brought everything over from Garageband to Ableton to finish New Order.

Lyrics

Baby, you know who’s back
Keeping you in suspense
I am here for you
See through you see-through soul
Cause life’s been sour since I left
I lure you in sweet than close a bitter trap
Make your mind cross a border
Don’t bother to be boring me
I borrowed your heart
You should’ve gotten a warden
Better know that your bitch is back to start a new order

Order, I’m starting a new order
Order, if you’re ready take my order
Order, it’s time to get you sorted, sorted

Wanted me to do the full thing
Rather give it my own spin
I want you to hear me
I rather not have my lyrics fall on deaf ears
I don’t do copies
Don’t need you to do me
Don’t need a man to please
I make ‘em dance like monkies

So bow for me, bow down for me
Beg for it, beg, beg for me ah
Crawl to me so damn slowly
Dance for me, dance, dance for me ah
Now show me you’re too lonely
For me to take another heart
Collect them all like trophies
I keep ‘em in a little jar

You’ve got your hands on me
I’m feeling you breathing on me ah
Your body close to me
Looking for words we don’t need
And when I’m feeling empty
I know my mind won’t stand a chance
Cause when this evening’s almost done
All I need is to see you, see you, see you
