“Enemy” upcoming single by Josephine De Smet

About “Enemy”

Enemy is about the realization that no one has responsibility over your life but you.
That you control your thoughts and if you don't they can have power over you and your life. You can be your own worst enemy and keep yourself from growing personally and professionally, finding and keeping romantic relationships and friendships.

You can be your own biggest hurdle and once you recognise your flaws they become growth potential. These flaws can manifest in behaviors and personality traits such as Jealousy, complacency, perfectionism, insecurity, self-sabotage, entitlement, etc.

You have a say in what you allow into your life, your mind. You control how you react whether that's external or internal as the latter can also manifest into these characteristics.

Lyrics

hey, hey little mould
time to let go and let this resolve

been a little down for a while
guess I don't know where to draw the line
if I could I'd turn it all around
staying low so you won't take me out

it's you I need to fear
cause if I am not careful
I risk you're the end of me
I wish you could see
what I could be for you, you don't
so I wish you the best of me
slow down

a secret agent in my mind
try to figure it all out
but you manipulate it all
I lost control of my jet

don't feel a thing no more am I dead
cause if you've fallen low you wonder what it takes
to break you, make you into something more
the bitch will be beheaded
stir your boiling blood with broken bones

it's you I need to fear
cause if I am not careful
I risk you're the end of me
I wish you could see
what I could be for you, you don't
so I wish you the best of me

Writing Process

Enemy started as a YouTube collaboration between Josephine and April Keez. The goal was to let a word generator come up with three words and both artists would write a song with those three words. The words were “agent”, “jet” and “resolution”. The singers were allowed to slightly alter the words e.g. “resolve” or associate with them. Enemy was written and recorded in one day.

Josephine De Smet is an independent, self-managed artist.
